Lesbian & Gay Senior Lives Part 2 - The First March
In June of 1970, a year after the Stonewall Riots, a march took place on what was then called Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day. It went up one lane of traffic on Sixth Avenue to the Sheep Meadow in Central Park. In part two of the lesbian and gay senior experience, individuals who were there that day talk about the march. Thanks to one of them, Jerry Hoose, we have archival footage allowing us to relive the first Gay Liberation Day. This video excerpt is from Out at the Center, a TV show of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of New York City. To see more episodes go to gaycenter.org/out. Lesbian & Gay Senior Lives Part 1 - Before Stonewall
The current generation of LGBT seniors came of age amidst the profound social changes of the 1950's 60's, and 70's. Their stories reflect queer history from the isolation of the past, to the triumphs of the present day. Part one of this two part series, takes a look at what it was like to be "gay" before the Stonewall uprising, when lesbians and gays felt enormous pressure to conform. Out at the Center sat down to hear the experiences of these individuals who are currently active with SAGE or Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders. The current generation of LGBT seniors came of age amidst the profound social changes of the 1950's 60's, and 70's. The... more

Coming out to save my life!
I came out at 38 here in rural North Carolina, for trying to live up to what everyone expected here in this area, was slowly killing me inside. Needless to say it cost me every friend I grew up with, and caused even more pain after coming out. As I speak for myself, I honestly feel there are many like me. Today I still feel oppressed, repressed, suppressed, and depressed at times. Seeing how I allowed the pain to cost me my education, moving from this location would be hard at best seeing how most jobs require a good education now.
My education in life has taught me to learn to accept things as they are. One of the hardest things to accept is living life alone, but seeing how that is the way it is at 52, it will probably be that way till the end of my time here in life.
Never in my lifetime did I ever expect to see the pride expressed on TV. Having a network just for that, and then Current doing this. Figure there is hope for the generations to come, and voices from the past like mine to remind that the fight for equality does have meaning. It is freeing up each one to be the best self they can be, and not be afraid of what will happen in the process.
Thanks Current for the pride month.

Billboard's Hot 100 Seals Its 1,000th Hit with Katy Perry's "I Kiss...
Katy Perry just smooched her way to No. 1, and into the history books.
Her single "I Kissed a Girl" leapfrogged over Coldplay to top Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, becoming the 1,000th No. 1 hit of the rock era.
Perry landed the millennial No. 1 by selling 235,000 digital copies and surging seven spots to No. 12 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. Though her music leans pop, the racy singer is racking up spins at several alt-rock stations as well, and she's a fixture on this year's Vans Warped Tour. HumanSexual
This might bounce a few of you, maybe not, dependent upon the size of your visual cup.
Identity so precious and so coveted to be correct especially if it's close to who we are and certainly not otherwise of our understanding of ourselves if we have anything to do with it...
... it's possible and certain that minds today believe that their emotions and their individuality override their own understanding of what really makes a person a person.
Sure it's all of those things but concretely and human it's more...
If you base your identity upon your sexuality or if you make your stand in life based upon your sexual preference please consider that sexuality is only one facet to the human molecule. I would argue that True Identity is not based upon physical, emotional, or spiritual understanding or lacking in any thereof but truly the balance of all, if your screaming your gay from a mountaintop, then your a troll if your screaming you hate gays from a crevice then your a troll.
I'm tired of trolls. Grow up queers and haters. This might bounce a few of you, maybe not, dependent upon the size of your visual cup. ... more -
Marc Jacobs vs Ralph Lauren: Pride Fashion Face-Off
Gay Pride week has descended upon New York City — well, at least upon its retail community. Towleroad correspondent Matty sends us a shot of the Ralph Lauren boutique down on Bleecker Street in the West Village which has posted a posse of Polo-wearin' mannequins. Just down the block, The Shophound notes, Marc Jacobs has updated his Interview magazine-inspired windows with a few speech bubbles.
Jacobs is also selling a T-shirt featuring the Confederate Flag (?!?) in rainbow colors. Shophound wonders, "Can Marc's peerless fashion clout make the rainbow flag hip once again by presenting it in a twisted, vaguely paradoxical, potentially controversial way?"

Let My Partner Stay
Because same-sex marriages are not recognized in the United States, certain marital benefits, like the advantage of permanent residency for a foreign born partner, are denied to bi-national spouses. This commonly results in the foreign partner being forced to leave the United States, and their loved ones, behind. Brittany and Joanna's story is one of thousands. Lesbian politics: Skip impeachment and proceed directly to war-crimes prosecution,...
I have approximately 1,000 lawyers in my family, so lawyers have always been heroes of mine--but never more so than at this given moment in history. I have watched a variety of attempts to impeach the so-called President and his cronies go down in flames, and I've always been struck by the thought, Why bother with impeachment? These guys are criminals who have repeatedly sh*t upon the Constitution! Let's prosecute them! Well, some lawyers have decided to germinate an answer to my civic prayers--as usual! Transgender Pilot Regains Her Wings
Within two hours of coming out as transgendered to her Human Resources department, corporate jet pilot Jamy Spradlin was put on paid administrative leave. To make matters worse, the Federal Aviation Administration delayed renewing her license to fly for nearly a year while they evaluated her psyche for stability after beginning hormone replacement therapy.
Spradlin is 41 years old now, though she grew up as a biological male. She loves to fly. It’s in her soul and her passion, she says. "I’ve been flying since I was 16. I got bit by the flying bug and have to do it." She says it brings her great peace and great freedom, and she loves to share that with other people. Within two hours of coming out as transgendered to her Human Resources department, corporate jet pilot Jamy Spradlin was put on paid a... more -
Very dissappointed in ex-gay pod
I just got done watching the ex-gay pod from New York. I am a straight man in full support of gay rights and I have to say I was deeply disturbed by this pod. It seems like the people featured were setting the gay movement back 50 years, further confirming anti-gay beliefs that being a homosexual is a choice not something you are born into. I believe in god but I think religion is a crock of shit. The fact that it has nothing else to contribute to human wisdom is no reason to hand religion a free license to tell us what to do. If you really feel like god is going to hate you because of your lifestyle then you obviously have some serious soul-searching to do. You can't just force yourself not to be gay because that's what your religion tells you to do. You need to embrace it, instead of trying to get gay people to become straight this church should be representing the fact that homosexuals can have religious beliefs without having to conform to the way the religion wants them to be. I think the people in this pod need to stop trying to be something they're not and start blaming their problems on the religion that has made it wrong to be the way they are instead of putting all their problems on being gay. I just got done watching the ex-gay pod from New York. I am a straight man in full support of gay rights and I have to say I was deepl... more

Please don't drown us in Pride pods, you guys are running them into the groun...
During earth day and also when you guys were playing every other pod something about "being green" and the electric cars, I had to stop watching because the subject was run into the ground. I guess maybe I watch too much.
So far Pride month seems to be taking over the airwaves and sadly run into the ground. i don't mind seeing some, but let people that are interested look it up on the Internet and put more world wide issues on please.
You can see my other post in the pride forum. "Too many labels, do we need a month too?" btw the meaning of my other post is that I don't want to be labeled as a "Hungarian-native American-whatnot race-bisexual-female-femine" I just want to be labeled as an American Citizen but mostly a human. When it comes down to it, that is all that matters.. see other post.
Thanks for reading. :) During earth day and also when you guys were playing every other pod something about "being green" and the electric cars, I ... more
